About Us

/ About Us

Since my early childhood, I’ve been passionate about dogs, and actually all animals. As a city kid, it was a huge experience to go to the countryside in the summers to my grandparents, where I could meet farm animals and lots of dogs. Also, in Komló, our neighborhood and its surroundings, I often helped acquaintances with dog walking, visited the dog shelter, and absorbed knowledge.

Although we lived in a small apartment with my parents, at the age of 12, I bought a little German Shepherd puppy with the money I had collected. That was the beginning of the most wonderful journey of my life: Sophie was my companion in everything; we learned together everything I now call dog handling. We attended demonstrations, hikes, and even reached the IPO exam, and at the age of 9, I entered her into a dog show where she became Best in Show. Unfortunately, she was only with us for 10 years…

In 2009, I graduated from the University of Kaposvár as an agricultural engineer. I had the opportunity to choose a field that I had always dreamed of: alongside the 5-year basic training, I studied companion and hobby animal breeding for 3 years, and also attended classes as an engineering teacher. I could delve into dog breeding, ethology, genetics, nutrition, among others.

During my university years, I personally got to know the border collie breed: I was fascinated by their athleticism, quick wit, and beautiful appearance.

I didn’t have to wait long, and in the Wendigo’s Wind kennel, 6 beautiful brown female puppies were born, and it wasn’t easy to choose. But as they say – the dog chooses its owner – and that’s what happened with us too, Dash chose me. With her, I discovered a new world; we not only do obedience and guard work, but also participate in herding, agility, dog dancing, tracking, frisbee, etc.

As the years went by, my commitment to the breed deepened, and since then, our pack has grown quite nicely. Besides my 3 foundation bitches, we also acquired an imported male, and besides them, we continue breeding with our own bred dogs.

Goals and other thoughts: In 2007, I registered my kennel name as Dashing Dawn, which I formed from Dash’s name. I don’t want to be a “factory-style” breeder; I always have only as many dogs as I can deal with in terms of quality. Dogs live with us as family members, so there are only occasional litters from them. After that, they continue their retired but still active lives with us, neutered.

My basic requirement for prospective owners, which I always have to emphasize every time, is to stay in touch with me and feel free to ask me any questions. I expect them to occasionally send pictures and tell stories about the dog. If I have the opportunity, I personally visit the offspring and the co-owned dogs, and occasionally organize kennel meetings as well.

I have many expectations for my breeding dogs, primarily emphasizing health and good temperament alongside the beautiful appearance. All my dogs undergo official hip dysplasia screening, as well as screening for breed-specific diseases. We herd with all of them, but in our spare time, we also practice obedience tasks, frisbee, pulling, and other sports with them.

In addition to our everyday life and sports, I consider it important to participate in as many shows as possible. Our dogs are very successful; we have many nice results and more than 100 CHAMPION titles behind us.

In our free time, we prefer to organize hikes, friendly gatherings with dogs, or even go to demonstrations at kindergartens, schools, children’s days, village days. I’m happy to show children what a dog that has been given a lot of time and smart care is capable of.
